NOTICE - Because of damage from hurricane Irene the Southern tip of Long Beach Island known as Holgate is currently scheduled to remain closed to until about September 9th, 2011 while repairs are being made. This includes being closed to walk-on, vehicle and boat access! The actual Holgate opening date is not known at this time. This closure is being enforced by Township authorities. Don't make things any worse, stay off Holgate until further notice! Thank you.

We welcome September with open arms! On the fluke scene there is little to report. The rocks up at the "Light" still have action. The beach still has small blues and kingfish. The bay is still loaded with blowfish and snapper blues. Store staffer, Eddy, has been fishing the various bulkheads and docks around town at night, "Snappers, blowfish and kingfish. No weakies for me." There is lots of bait in the area! Mullet, baby bunker and spearing are darting around. The cool nights as of late are getting us in the fall mood. After a long hot summer, I think we are all ready for the fall fishing season to begin. It's about time for the albies to come within a stones throw from the beach. These light tackle screamers love clean ocean water and they come in tight to the beach when bait and water is present. Look for them in the near future!
