Fisherman's Headquarters Fishing Report LBI 8-18
August 17, 2011
8:00 PM - Fresh Bunker & Live Greenies Came Are In Stock NOW!
Steve Wolfschmidt (store staff) went out on the Carolyn Ann to catch some flatties today. He stopped into the shop to share his report. He had two beauties one 3+ and one just shy for 6-lbs. Steve-O said, "There were a bunch of keepers caught on the boat today. The anglers jigging bucktails had most of the action because there was a slow drift for the earlier part of the trip. Some fish were in the 6 and 7 pound range."
Robbie Vallone went out fluking aboard the Dorris Mae. He caught a number of keepers including a 20, a 24 and a 26.5" 6-lb 10oz flatty.

New Jersey's Artificial Reef Program marked an historic achievement on August 10 with the reefing of the Arthur W. Radford. The decommissioned destroyer is the first warship ever sunk off our coast and is now located 28 nautical miles southeast of Cape May at the Del-Jersey-Land Reef in 130 feet of water. The Radford Reefing Project was a collaborative effort between the U.S. Navy and the states of New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. The vessel will provide habitat for more than 150 species of fish and marine life and will quickly become a premiere recreational fishing destination. Additionally, its colossal size and diversified structure will appeal to scuba divers of all skill levels. For more information on the deployment, including reef coordinates and a photo of the sinking, visit http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/new...d_deployed.htm on the division's website. ~ NJ DEP Division of Fish and Wildlife. Thanks to Bill Figley who helped on this project. It's great for anglers fishing out of Cape May. Too bad it wasn't a little closer proximity.

Great day we have on our hands today! Next to no wind. The bay and ocean is like a lake. FYI the Airshow is today down off of Atlantic City!
So what is the deal with the current fishing report? Fluke fishing is in its prime and thanks to the extended season we still have more than a month to go. It will be interesting to see how September plays out. Also in its prime, crabbing down at the bay. If crabbing is your thing you should wet a line while the traps are soaking. Snapper blues are in the areas. There are also blowfish and weakfish. There has been a lot of bait moving around: spearing, baby bunker and mullet. Hopefully this fall will be a great one!
Up at the Inlet there are still the summer species which hang at in the rocks: blackfish, small sea bass and sheepshead. Put your time in and the resident stripers there might bite give you a bite.
As far as the offshore reports goes we haven't heard much. What we have heard has been hit or miss. We know that some boats went to the Tom's over the weekend and head a very slim pick'ens. The mahi saved some trips. Some boats elsewhere got into some bigeye and longfin.

Last week an unexpected family medical emergency suspended all fishing activity , Thankfully everything is settling down and we will be back at this week. The only thing I have to report for now is the Reel Fantasea Fishing Charters hoodies, short and long T's are in and ready . I think they came out great and could make a nice addition to anyone's casual wardrobe and also a great gift idea for the up and coming holiday season. August 26th is the last available date in August for anyone interested and remember Fall is a little more than a month away so reserve your Fall fishing date today! Best Regards,

Good morning, still trying to dry out after yesterday's rain. Right now Barnegat Bay has an excellent mix of fluke, weakfish, and small blues for light tackle anglers. During the past week I mixed up my trips by either targeting fluke or weakfish. Every outing was successful in both numbers and being able to take home some fish for dinner. I slipped out solo at first light one morning and nailed a Barnegat Bay Grand Slam (striped bass, weakfish, fluke and blue). The fluke have started pushing out of the bay but we should have them around a little longer. The ocean will likely be the place to fish in September until the season closes. Schools of weakfish are deep in the bay and should remain for another month, if not longer. Saturday's full moon really slowed down the crabbing. I still have some dates in August so give me a call if you want get in on the mixed bag light tackle back bay action.
Screaming drags...

Fluke fishing and sea bassing the inshore reef/wrecks are still productive! The open bottom areas North of the inlet from 30-50' are great places to target the flatties.
John gave us the heads up earlier today, "I caught kingfish this morning on the DynaBait freeze dried bloodworms!" FYI: Fisherman's Headquarters is currently the exclusive DynaBait USA dealer. For those who don't know yet. DynaBait worms are farmed (sustainable) marine worms (bloodworms and sandworms) that are freeze dried. These 100% all natural worms need to be rehydrated with a short soak in water and they are ready to fish. DynaBait Bloodworms and Sandworms are the real deal; featuring the worm's original full flavor (undamaged) with its hormones, enzymes and amino acids. Some of the feed back we have received is that DynaBait worms stay on the hook just as good if not better than live worms and they out catch artificial worms hands down.
Small blues and kingfish are cruising the surf with the occasional cobia. The fluke are also waiting for you bucktail.
