Saltwater / Jetty Report:
9/18/2011
Had word the mullet run went nuts last night with people netting tons of them. Already had reports from the beach and it is going to be the heavy rod day as it is already taking 8 ozs to hold and it will only get worse as the day goes on because of the NE wind and the rollers. Stripers are feeding on mullet, so it would be good to use now. So on to the reports from yesterday.
LBI: small blues, small stripers
IBSP: blues, few fluke during the day from the pocket, few stripers
Ortley Beach: small blues, few stripers, short fluke
Pt Pleasant: small blues
Been tuff for boaters lately. Some were out yesterday with no luck for fluke. They did however find some blues here and there. Today looks tuff because the seas are suppose to be 5 to 8 foot because of the NE wind. I would bet most will not go out of stay in the bays.

Man I love this weather! Mullet run has started but not in full force yet. The keeper stripers are being caught on clams and shorts have been on plugs. On too the reports.
LBI: small blues, keeper stripers from Holgate
IBSP: blues, few fluke, few stripers
Ortley Beach: small blues, few stripers, short fluke
Ocean Beach: small blues, few stripers
Pt Pleasant: small blues, stripers around the Manasquan jetties, few fluke
Jetties: blackfish, small blues, stripers
Talked to some boater who are going to get out to the reefs today and try their luck for fluke. It has been hard going finding any fluke laely but I wish them luck. Other are fishing for what ever is there and are into croakers and small blues just off Barnegat Inlet. Party boats are into blues and some little tunny but i wasn't told where they are fishing.

WOW what a great fall morning even though it is still summer. If I could get away I would be on some beach fishing or dock fishing and crabbing. It is that time of the year where if you fish it is starting to get good. After the hurricane the striper fishing has been doing ok but most are shorts. Best bet is to be fishing clams as the storms have broken the clam beds up. One thing I will say is this is not the start of the fall run but just resident stripers. The water temps are dropping some now with the cooler night so you want to keep your eyes on that. Also the mullet run is just starting and I have heard of some sand eels being around as well.
LBI: small blues
IBSP: small blues but getting bigger, short fluke, few stripers
Ortley Beach: small blues, few stripers, short fluke
Ocean Beach: small blues, few stripers
Pt Pleasant: small blues, stripers around the Manasquan jetties
Jetties: blackfish, small blues, stripers
Boaters are still having a hard time finding any keeper fluke. Small craft warnings are still in effect today so it looks like not many will get out. With sea bass out of season and you can only keep one blackfish it might be better if you fish the bays or rivers for stripers or blowfish right now. Party boats are doing pretty good with bluefish out at The Mud Hole. No word from off shore as it has been to rough for most to run out there.
Bay Report:

Once again it was blowfish, snappers, small weakfish, and short stripers out of Great Bay, Tuckerton Bay, and Barnegat Bay. Some of the blowfish are smaller but a lot of people are boating so many the bigger ones are making for a good meal. Just a FYI, blowfish are great eating and not poisonous. the crabbing reports yesterday was very mixed. One person would tell me tons of big crabs and the next it was just a bunch of small ones.

Bay fishing has been pretty good lately. Great Bay and Tuckerton Bay had reports of blowfish, snappers, kingfish, porgies, small weakfish, short stripers, and mostly throw back fluke. Barnegat Bay it has been blowfish, snappers, small weakfish, and short stripers. No word on any fluke being caught. Crabbing has slowed a little bit but still good size and full of meat are the reports I am getting.

First off don't forget we have all GULP on sale right now. Some did get out yesterday before the rain and once again it was blowfish along with some kingfish, snappers, a few smaller weakfish, and some porgies from Great Bay, Tuckerton Bay, and Barnegat Bay. Also hearing of some short stripers out of Barnegat Bay and Raritan Bay. But something that is really good, there also have been a bunch of keeper stripers being caught out of Raritan Bay on clams as well. Crabbing is still going good but some spots are not producing many keepers at times. If not you just have to move.

A bunch of people out fishing but few reports came back. Few reprots of bass and pickerel from Miry Run, Prospertown Lake, AMC, and Etra Lake and that is it. Talking to one of the customers yesterday I had to laugh, He can't fish on Sundays anymore because he has to watch football. He said he plans around the game. It was life or death if he didn't watch it. That has got to be one of the crazyest things I ever heard. I like footbal but I would never stop my life over it.

Some out fishing after work yesterday and some reports did come in. The three Assunpink Lakes, Miry Run, Prospertown Lake, and Etra Lake had reports of bass and pickerel being caught. AMC and Town Center reports of sunnies, catfish and a few bass caught. The Delaware River is producing some good catches of channel catfish. Also some walleye from the Washington Crossing area. I have not heard a lot about how small mouth is doing or the people are tight lipped about them.

Few out fishing before the afternoon showers. No reports came back yesterday. It is getting that time of yesr where the fish are starting to feed for the winter. If you want to catch fish now is the time to do it. Just about any type of bait works, live bait, plastics, crankbaits etc... It looks like it is going to be a great weekend to be out fishing. Don't forget we are still on our new summer hours and we are open at 7:00AM on Saturday and Sunday.
