First Drum ever landed!!!

Well where do I start???

Woke up around 11ish (slept in..."it's so choice...if you have the means, I highly recommend it"- Ferris Bueler Quote)
Saw a perfect day....bright and sunny...ZERO wind....looked great, but I knew it was supposed to be a tad windy later on in the day

We get to the boat around 1ish to set out to land our first drum ever and first real fish on the new Contender...

So by now the wind has picked up to a steady 20-25mph out of the south...which will make the bay look pissed off.

Break the inlet and it's not too bad 2's on the way out...get about mile into the bay and we are greated with solid 3's...ok no biggie....we get to our spot...anchor up....and the wind is just blowing non-stop and the bay is not happy at this point. By 3pm we have 3-4's close together rolling all over the place but we are set and content on landing our first drum....

BAM!!!!! I yank back and my rod is bent over...."HOLY SHIT" I scream.......after about 5 minutes I see this beast coming up....my brother gafs him 1st shot and yanks him over....we estimated about 50#'s....

An hour later...my rod gets whacked again....I yank bank...and it's on once again...this time I pass the rod to my brother since I told him he was bringing in the next one....he finally get's it up and this one is bigger than mine...I go to gaf....BRICK 1....swipe again...Brick 2....swipe a 3rd time...EHHH WRONG....4th times a charm for me Over the side it goes....

I look at him and say...ok time for us to go home...go to pull up the anchor...ehhhh wrong...the anchor IS NOT budging...ok try to drive around and pull it out...nope...finally get it pried loose....and the f-ing this is bent to almost a 90 degree angle....

Oh Well!!!! Fish in the box...blood on the deck of a new boat....

One hell of a boat ride in....3's-4's but th eboat is a BEAST and ate it up!!!

here are some pics...
Brothers....estimated probably 60#s...too late to get them weighed...wanted to run over to Hinches...but figured it was too late...

Mine in the box...estimated 50#s?

Crappy conditions(pics do the waves no justice)

Nice Anchor!!

NICE MUG!!

I was going to pull a Jimmy Houston and smooch the fish...but couldn't bring myself to do so

My "hurry the f-up" this thing is heavy laughing grin

Nice fish and sounds like a great plan - up at 11 on the boat at 1:00 and a couple of nice fish to boot. Nice christening for the new boat.

Gotta love drum trips

Thats what makes drum fishing so much fun. Sleep til noon. At fishing hole by 2. At dock with beers in hand at 8. Then clean fish til midnight! Getting up early is for the old guys....
