2010 Boating Safety Classes
The Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife, Office of Boating Education is pleased that you
are interested in safe boating on our waters. Our purpose is to provide the necessary
education to meet the needs of the boating public and fulfill the requirements of Delaware’s
mandatory education requirements. Boating education teaches boaters to be safe,
knowledgeable, and responsible. With more and more people enjoying the ocean, lakes,
and rivers every year, it is important for everyone, that boaters educate themselves on
boating skills and seamanship. For further information, about Delaware Boating
Education Program and scheduled courses, call Sgt. Greg Rhodes at (302) 739-9915 or 1-
800-464-4357 or contact him by email at Gregory.Rhodes@state.de.us.
Effective January 1, 1994, successful completion of a Boating Safety Course is mandatory
for persons born on or after January 1, 1978, in order to operate a boat. ** Personal
Watercraft is a boat.
There are two online courses approved by NASBLA and DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife
that you may take at home in order to earn your mandatory education requirements. The first site
is www.boat-ed.com. Click on Delaware and go into the study section, there you can take the
pre-test for the Boat Ed exam at no cost. When you are satisfied with the results of the pre-test,
you can then take the final test at a cost of $29.50. The second is
