Delaware Bay

We ran the boat down to Cape May for the weekend to see if we could catch our first drum.

We left Keyport Thursday morning and ran down to South Jersey Marina. Great Place! Good food and drink within walking distance and a first rate marina

We took it on the chin all the way down with 6-8' seas and a couple of 10'ers mixed in. It kind of served as a shakedown for the new boat. Everything worked fine and she burned less fuel that I expected to in those conditions.

We got a late start fishing on Fri due to the fact that we did a bit too much unwinding after our trip the night before and a bad weather forcast.

Pitch Bait stopped by the marina and hung out for awhile and took us over to Off the hook to meet the guys. It was very nice meeting everyone and putting some faces to the names. This is a top knotch shop and everybody there was very nice and helpful. I also got the chance to meet chumstain at the marina. Thanks Bobby for stopping by and showing us around we had a great time.

After screwing around in the moring we decided to head out and give it a shot as the wind wasn't blowing as the forcast said it would.

As soon as we dropped the hook the wind showed up as forcasted. We toughed it out for a couple of hours with nothing but dogfish and skates to show for our efforts.

Saturday the weather was much better so we headed out to give it another shot. Well we had more of the same, doggies and skates.

We did get to see what some of these black drum look like as when we were coming back from dinner one of the charter boats had a 76 lb monster on the scale and had a few other puppy drum back at the boat in the cooler. Dam thats an ugly fish!

Came home yesterday into some more snotty seas.

All in all we had a blast of a weekend. We will be back down next year to give it another shot for our first black drum. I guess we should make it a couple of weeks later next year.
