COD REPORT NJ - AFTERNOON BITE IS BETTER

Recently the afternoon bite is better than the morning bite. The most recent trips have been average to good for the most part. The pool winners seem to be 15 - 20lbs on average.

We are seeing the same reports coming in from the Montauk area as well. Jigging with bigger jigs has been better than bait. The Hi-Lo Jig Rigs are working very well alot of double headers coming over the rail using this rig. Its a simple hi-low design, but rather than hooks for bait, you replace the hooks with a heavy jig on the bottom and a lighter jig on the top area. That smaller, lighter jig will often get more action than the larger one. ( using a small jig alone is next to impossible in deep water, so this is a great way to use one).

Some better reports the last few days from a couple of local boats. The afternoon bite is still pretty good. I have seen some reports that were not good, but the captains I spoke to are doing pretty good. Pool winners in the 24 - 27lb range. JIgs working better than bait right now.
