Chunking in the Canyons is heating up! Pics from the Lindy
We ran off to the Lindy hoping that the forecast was right and, for the first time in a while, it was. The seas were huge but mostly swells. We arrived there around 4:30 and set up to troll. There was so much weed tha I thought we should be able to mow it but we did nothing on the troll at all. except scope out the right spot to set up. By the way, there were some boats in the Wilmington, Spencer, and Carteret that cauht longfin and some YFT on the troll. i will be in the Wilmington tomorrow to check that out. Oh, yeh, There were a couple of guys that were catching albacore in the Spencer and Wilmington as I said. It is a shame that folks offshore, especially in this time of high fuel prices are not willing to share any info with others. One guy in the Spencer came back when I called the first time and then said he had a hookup and would get back. Never happened and when I called him several times, he ignored he call. I try to help off there and it tics me off when others choose to be secretive especially with the conditions that have been occurring in the troll bite recently. i do not know the boat name since he never answered again but perhaps I can do the same for him one day. That said, I really didn't need his info since we did find the right spot to set up. i set up in 70 fathoms and as the time went on, the wind died and the seas smoothed out. We started chunking and within an hour we had 2 nice 10 lb dolphin in the boat, Then between 8:30 and 9:30 we had 6 or 8 bites and boated 4 nice fish. JR definitely had his butt kicked by his tuna.
He eventually did get the fish and then slept for most of the night. after a bit a small mako of about 60 lbs. decided to eat a chunk and Jake hooked him in the corner of the mouth . We caught him, took a pic and released him. What a pretty fish!
Here's a pic of 4 happy guys
By 2:00 A.M. we had 5 nice YFT and we started back in glassy swells. It was a beautiful evening with all the stars in the sky that were so thick that they looked like a cloud. if you have never seen that, you've really missed it.
