Capt. Art Conway of Conway's River Rat Guide Service (804-746-2475) out of
Ed Allen's Boats and Bait reported that Chickahominy Lake mid-day water
temperatures were in the mid to high 80's last weekend. They will probably
be in the low 90's this week. The lake level was well below full pool, and
weeds and floating algae made fishing difficult in places. A few crappie
and some nice yellow perch were still around the creek mouths and on main
lake weed flats. Moderate numbers of bass and a few pickerel were still
scattered in the creeks and out on the main lake flats early in the
mornings. Wright Bait Co. two inch curly tail grubs, tubes, swim baits, and
live minnows were the most effective baits for crappie and yellow perch.
Fishing with Capt. Conway, Hollis Pruitt had 13 crappie, 6 yellow perch, 2
bluegill, 1 blue cat, and 6 bass.
