Captain Steve's Bait and Tackle Chincoteague Island Fishing Report 7/27
Andrew and April Brunell from Fairfax, VA with April's 2-3/4#, 20" flounder she caught on a morning fishing trip fishing with Andrew's folks, Ed and Ann, are regulars and have a place here and talked Andrew into going fishing with us while they were visiting. Things turned out for Andrew the way they usually turn out for Ed, their wives catch dinner. There are still some nice flounder around and some bigger croaker are coming in, too. They had a good time abaoard Chincoteague View with Capt. Mike Handforth! Steven and son Dan from PA and Keith from SC enjoyed the windy afternoon with Captain Charlie on the Island queen managing two keepers 21.5" and 19.25" before the wind went to 20 MPH and the tide changed. They also had a few throw backs and a few croaker to 14" but once the wind picked up it was like someone threw a switch and the bite stopped. Chase Brown had another good ebach outing with 5 spot, 2 flounder, 2 rays, and 2 sharks 42'' and 45'' released! Garrett showing off one of his many croakers aboard the Poontang! Mark and friends had 7 keepers of 35 caught at Blackfish recently. They also caught and released a nurse shark in another good day of fishing. A nice shot taken by an amatuer photographer Lance I. It's been a pretty crazy weather day with the rain and thunderstorms. The pony people ahve arrived in full force awaiting the Pony Swim this Wednesday. The fishing off the surf has been a bit tough with rough currents but there are still fish around. Make sure to take some sputniks that give you the best holding power. They are a must have when you want to be able to hold in striong currents. The EC surf and bay rig has been a good all around rig for spot, croaker, kingfish, seabass, trout... These are hand tied and snelled with floats to keep you away from the crabs. Made with longshank hooks they are easier to get the fish off tip them with fishbites, bloodworms, and squid for best sucess. There are still some nice flounder beaing caught gulp and minnows give you the best shot at them. We even have some bigger gulps 7 inch variety for the wrecks which have been productive with our heavier bucktail. Bucktail jigging is gaining in popularity once again as this old method of catching fish has been doing well here lately. We have in fresh bunker, live minnows and the largest selection of bait and tackle around. That's the report for now. Tight Lines. We also still have a couple spots open for Pony Penning so if you want to stay out of the march and be on a boat contact us by e-mail info@stevesbaitandatackle.com This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or phone (757)336-0569.
