Fishing Report 10-30-2011

Where does the time go? November is finally here and so is the colder weather. Things should start happening now. As of now the numbers aren't great, but at least there are some bass being taken. Hopefully this wind will die down and the cooler water temperatures will turn the fishing on.

Right now the local piers, bridges, and along the sod banks of the back bays are giving up a few small bass. Every now and then a keeper is thrown in the mix. They are taking small surface poppers, swimming plugs, live Spot, Eels and fresh Clam. You can also try dragging Eels in the inlets or use live Spot. If that's not your game try anchoring up and using Bunker chunks or fresh Clam. Just last week one of our regulars had two bass in the GE Inlet on fresh Bunker he snagged out front and kept in his live well.

Once you get out front look to see if there is any bird action. Gannets and gulls don't lie, they are the best fisherman out there. Jig metal or large bucktails. If you want to troll try a Niner, Stretch 25's or 30's, drag and umbrella rig or troll a Bunker spoon. Who knows just a little further out and you might even hook into a Bluefin Tuna heading south.

When you can get out to the canyons the fishing has really been great with anglers returning with their limit of Yellowfin Tuna, a few Swordfish and even some Golden Tilefish.

Back inshore if Striper fishing isn't your game try the local wrecks and lumps. They have been giving up some nice Tog, Sea Bass, and even some Cod. On the beach there is an occasional Striper, a few Kingfish, and some small Bluefish. Most of these fish have been taken on bait, but a few Stripers were taken on plugs.

The Tog fishing in the bays continues to be real strong. Regulations change the 15th of November. Green Crab is the way to go.

As for the Atlantic County Surf Derby which ends Sunday the 30th. of October, all result will be up on our web site by this coming Friday.
