Captain Andy;s fishing report, Mrgate 8-14
Fishing Report 8-14-2011
South Jersey fishing is at its finest. Keeper Flounder are making their way to the inlets and ocean. Anglers are drifting the deeper channels leading to the inlets and out front. They are also having success on the reefs, the GE, Ocean City and AC., and on the local wrecks as far out as ninety feet of water. Large strip baits are the way to go, but Gulp and Mackerel are also getting the job done.
Our back bays are loaded with snapper Bluefish, which are great fun on light tackle with a small piece of metal. You can also use one of them, live line it, and possibly hook into a nice Flounder or even a Striper. The docks behind Margate have been giving up some nice size Stripers in the evenings especially around the cleaning tables. There are also small Stripers along the sod banks in Sculls Bay.
Kingfish have made their presence known along the beaches; itís that time of the year. The Croakers will be making their way into the area. Sea Bass are on the reefs along with some nice Flounder. You have to get into the rubble and loose a few rigs, but you should have success.
The offshore fishing was red hot this past week. Yellow fin Tuna, Mahi, a few White Marlin and even a couple of Sailfish and best of all, Blue Marlin where all taken on the troll with Ballyhoo. Most of the fish were take between the Lindenkohl and Spencer Canyons.
LOCAL CATCHES

1. Wednesday night Joe Conicello, of Margate, landed a nice Striper from the docks behind Margate. It was 29îs long and weighed 12 lb.
2. Ed Berger was on Carmen Roneís boat Friday and fished the Spencer trolling Ballyhoo and went 10 for 13 on Yellow fin Tuna up to 90 lbs.
They also hooked and released a Sailfish.
3. The Jackie Sea with Capt. Chalie McLaughlin and crew put the lines
In the water around the 50 line and started trolling out to the Spencer
Canyon this past Friday. One line popped and three and half hours later they released a 700 + lb. BLUE MARLIN. They also had Yellow fin Tuna.
