Cape May Giant Drum and Trophy Stripers

Well folks the time is here for the Giant Drum that will, and all ready have invaded the Delaware Bay. For those of you from the northern part of the state that don't get these fish its time to have a go at them. We fish in water depths of 15 to 30 feet for these behemoth fish reaching up to and sometimes over 100lbs. the most common fish are 60 to 90 lbs and they fight like hell on gear that is heavy enough to handle these fish but light enough to hold and not get worn out by the weight of the rod/reel combo. For those of you that have heard Drum fight like a old spare tire is the furthest thing from the truth! They burn drag then they dig in and fight all they way to the end. This is a great fishery for those that like to catch big fish in skinny water. Its a basic fishery with fresh clams as the bait of choice and a simple rig of a hook and fishfinder weight.
Once on the school of fish its non-stop action for the most part until the tide dies out. As far as table fare I personally haven't tried the Drum but people who have seem to love it, they compare it to veal and prepare it the same way was veal parm. So there you have it a fishery in the month of may for 80lb class fish a few miles from the docks on the Great Delaware Bay.

I also want remind those of you that like to fish for trophy stripers they will be here shortly. Right now they are doing their thing in the rivers and will be coming down with in the next week or so. This is a fantastic fishery for true trophy size Stripers and is a fantastic fishery aside from the Drum. These fish are coming off spawn and will be hungry and we will be on them. I like to conserve so I may put a self imposed limit of the amount of fish the charter can keep. But of course if the charter wants meet then thats what they get. But I would like to be given the chance to C & R most of these fish as most if not all are big 30 to 50lb females and I would like to see them go back in the H2O to spawn again.
For any info on these trips pleas feel free to contact me at 609 846 5874
    thanks,
