While taking some time off to make the move back to Jersey and to see my girlfriend graduate from the U of Miami with a Masters in architectual engineering I got in a few trips, and the fish were definately still biting!
On friday May 6 I took the Glen and company out for a day of sailfishing off Miami. Usually this time of year the sails are hit or miss, and we definately hit them on friday. After a late departure bait was tough and we finally had lines in at 10:30. Setting up just off bear cut in 120-150' there were free jumpers everywhere and we quickly had a fish between our two kite spread. Single hook ups where the common place today and by 4pm we had sucessfully released 7/8 sailfish.
On Tues. May 10 I took Richard and friends aboard his 35' cabo the Lady Kar out for a night of swordfishing. Within 35 minutes of setting up the close float rod was bent but not taking line. I cranked down on the fish and we were tight. After clearning some lines and moving the boat a little we had a nice sword 20' down. Just as we saw the fish another fish appeared to be following the one we had hooked. I quickly got a bait and we were now tight on two. The first one was quickly boated and measured out a 53" and the second was soon to follow at 52". We hung in there until midnight but had no other bites so we headed home.
I will now be heading back to jersey to get in on some of the great striper action Capt. Phil and Capt. Mark are experiencing!
