This year, the Brett T. Bailey Foundation raised approximately $18,000 and that money will mostly go to the State of New Jersey National Guard and Reservists, to financially assist those active individuals and families in need, who have decided to make the ultimate sacrifice, to serve our Country in Iraq and Afghanistan. We could not be happier to continue our longstanding relationship with the Guard. The Foundation continues to be the top contributor to the families of those New Jersey National Guard Men and Women serving so admirably.

The Foundation is also working with other local charities, who will receive donations from money raised from this event, including:

The Foundation for Sight & Sound, an organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals affected by various visual and/or auditory challenges,
Good Grief, Inc., a resource for grieving children and their families. Through their support center and workshops they help children during the difficult times of their lives and offer support and guidance to the adults in their lives.
Haven Hospice at JFK Hospital in Edison, a program for patients and their families who are coping with a life-threatening illness.

The weather was perfect this year and we had a record turnout of 46 boats participating. The fishing was exceptional once again as several big fish were brought to the scales. There were eight makos weighed with the largest caught by tournament winner Dave Schunke and his team on the 'Insufficient Funds II.' They weighed a monster 385 lb Mako that missed the tournament record by only 18 lbs and took home $14,900. The fish was brought into the scales at 6:40 with 20 minutes to spare and knocked out the 239 lb Mako that sat atop the leader board for much of the afternoon and was caught by Darren Volker and the crew of the 'Mary Lou Crew.' Three threshers were weighed and the Thresher Calcutta totaling $7,800 was taken home by George Palczak and his crew on the 'Blue Devil.' They weighed a 334 lb Thresher to win the Calcutta.

The Foundation is grateful to Scott Wigert of the Brielle Yacht Club, Michael Simko of Simko’s Restaurant for their efforts, hospitality and support as well as all of the people that participated in the weekend’s festivities. The money raised will hopefully make a difference in the lives of those in need.
