Fishing this week turned out to be good all around.
The opening of flounder season brought out many anglers and fish were taken on Saturday with reports of fluke in the bays but that many of them were undersized. On Sunday, little Mike Miraglilo fished with his dad in Risleys Channel and bagged a five pound plus flounder. It was his first fish ever. Congrats to little Mike. He was using a chartreuse gulps swimming mullet at the time.
On Saturday, Kevin McGuckin drifted the GE Inlet with clams and had a bonanza of stripers. He and his crew had seven keepers overall. The largest fish was 43.25 inches in length and weighed 27.5 pounds. The remainder of these bass was all over 34 inches in length. Steve Calao fished the the beach in Atlantic City and had two nice stripers. One was 22 pounds and measured 40 inches and the other was 24 pounds and measured 41 inches.
Keith Zaid and crew aboard his vessel the “Plastic Cloud” fished one of the local reefs and cleaned up on sea bass. They caught in excess of one hundred fish, ended up with 42 keepers and the largest was just over 4 pounds and measured 22 inches. These fish were all caught on clams.
A little further offshore, Charlie Falkenstein and Jim Naumowich fished the AC Ridge for blue fish and had six large slammers. The biggest of these was 15.6 pounds and measured 37 inches. They were fishing aboard the “Play Pen” and were trolling at the time.
Just beyond that, the crew of the “Sakana Kira” was shark fishing but ended up with a large number of blues. The largest of these weighed in at 14.9 pounds and was caught by Chris Blankenship. They were chumming with bunker chum and drifting cut mackerel at the time.
It appears as though the season is beginning to move into high gear.
More next week;
