Fishing this week was mixed with blue fish taking over in the inlets and bays. Tog season ended with a bang. Stripers were also caught and perch continue to be thick in the rivers and creeks.
The bridge fishermen loaded up with tog as the season wound down and the fish they caught all seemed to be over fifteen inches and in the four to five pound class.
As far as blues are concerned, Dave Kalter and crew fished the train bridge near Atlantic City and had 24 fish in less than an hour. They said they could have taken all the fish they wanted but pulled out after an hour or so. They were fishing with bucktails.
Stripers have been taken with clams in the bay and around the bridges particularly on the Beesly’s Point Bridge and near Longport.
Early in the week young Robby Crompton and his dad and brothers fished near the bridge by the dam in Mays Landing and bagged a load of nice perch in the one to one and a half pound range. They caught all these fish on blood worms.
A few of our more staunch customers ventured outside but reported only sand sharks and skates but the beach fishermen said they were able to take medium sized blue fish in the surf.
More next week.
