Once again this week, offshore fishing headed the parade with a plethora of species being targeted and caught. At the same time flounder continue to be taken in large numbers in the back bays and at the inshore reefs.
On Sunday the crew of the “Reel Deal” fished the Cartaret Canyon and took a 158 pound sword fish in roughly 3000 feet of water. Kevin Coolahan was on the rod and Joe Sheridan is Captain and owner. On Saturday Bob Cummings and crew on the “Lady J” fished the Wilmington Canyon for tile fish and had a dozen fish, some up to forty pounds. On Sunday he fished on the “Bonnie Lee” in the Lindenkohl and went two for four on white marlin, had two yellow fin tuna in the 60 pound class and had a long fin tuna in the forty pound range.
Also on Sunday J.R. Gentile fished the Lindenkohl on the “Filet O Fish” and bagged a 208 pound big eye. The battle lasted almost two hours. This fish was caught on a green and yellow Ilander draped over a ballyhoo.
Closer inshore Brad Rush and company fished the Stone Beds on Saturday and had all the snapper blue fish they could handle. The action was non-stop for nearly two hours and they said they caught nearly a hundred fish all in the two pound class. They were dragging small feathers and Clark spoons.
Finally, inshore Teddy Gill fished the Margate Bridge and took a 17 inch tog that weighed in at just under four pounds. Also, many anglers reported large catches of fluke in the bay behind Somers Point but once again few keepers were reported.
More next week;
