Fishing this week was characterized by nice catches of fluke and offshore the tuna action really heated up.
On Saturday Bob Whiteside and crew fished the GE Reef and caught over twenty fluke and ended up with two keepers. These fish were both over 22 inches. The bite was fairly steady and these fish were all caught on minnows. Earlier in the week Nick Forry and company fished the OC Reef and he bagged a 27.5 inch 7.44 pound fluke. They were fishing on the “Chips Ahoy” and were using a combination of minnows, squid and Gulps. Late Saturday Phil Degliomini and his dad and younger brother fished the OC Reef and cleaned up. They had a total of six nice keepers the largest of which was 7.03 pounds and measured 27.5 inches, the next biggest was 5.03 pounds and measured 25 inches. They were using squid and minnows at the time.
The OCMTC had its tournament all week and many local anglers participated over the weekend. On Saturday Joe Sheridan and his crew on the “Reel Deal” fished the East wall of the Wilmington and boated a 174.5 pound big eye. They had the fish on for over seven hours before they finally subdued it. It was caught on a covered ballyhoo in water that was 79 degrees.
Finally Ken Wallace and crew on his boat “Full Course” fished the Lindenkohl and boated a 229 pound big eye. They also had a 40 pound yellow fin and two nice dolphins. The tuna was taken on a spreader bar. Harry Cottrall and Len Sannelli were on the rod.
Nice going boys. More next week
