A change in the weather this week seemed to usher in the striped bass as fish began to show up in the inlets and a few in the bay.
Sea bass reopened and tog continue to be caught in numbers around the bridges and sod banks. Some kingfish can still be had in the surf but the weather this weekend put the plans of the offshore fishermen on hold.
Mid-week this week Ron Smith and crew fished the Delaware Bay and boated a 42 pound striper. They had some smaller fish also. They were using fresh bunker and were drifting. Also mid-week, Pete West and Al Marchetti fished Delaware Bay and had a total of five bass four of which turned out to be keepers. The largest of these fish was just north of 25 pounds. They too were drifting and chunking bunker.
It appears as though the larger tog are now at the inshore reefs and have begun to turn up around the bridges and along some of the sod banks. These fish have been taken exclusively on green crabs. The season really begins the sixteenth of this month. We have heard that sea bass are also on the inshore reefs and on Sunday, due to clement conditions, some of our customers went but as of this report we have no information as to how they fared.
Our store tournament is in full swing and runs through mid-December. Great prizes and good fun can be had.
More next week;
