This week the bass fishing really picked up and many of our customers got in on the action.
Early in the week Don Slota and crew fished the GE Inlet and had four nice stripers the largest of which weighed in at 21.75 pounds. They were drifting chunks of fresh bunker. Bob Cummings fished the Delaware Bay both mid-week and later toward the weekend. On his first trip, he had two nice bass, the largest of which weighed 24.25 pounds and measured 42 inches. His second trip yielded even better results. While fishing with a full crew, he caught thirteen fish. He had four keepers. Young Kyle Cummings age eight, bagged a 44 inch bass that weighed just north of 29 pounds. Nice going young man. Bob was on his boat “Lady J” and was using fresh bunker. Mark Healy and crew on his boat “Adult Swim” trolled the shallows just off Atlantic City and took a 36.25 pound bass. The fish measured 42 inches. They were trolling Stretch 25’s, and umbrella rigs. Bunker Spoons have also been effective we are told. Bill Troehler had a unique double header this week. On Saturday he fished Birchgrove Lake and caught a rainbow trout that measured 16 inches and weighed 1.51 pounds and on Sunday he fished the GE Inlet and snagged an 18 pound bass while fishing on his boat “Drop Zone”. The striper was caught on of all things fresh bunker.
Sea bass continue to be taken on the inshore reefs and tog can be had there also. The sea bass can be taken on any number of baits, (clams, mackerel, etc.) Tog are caught on green crabs.
We have had customers tell us that some stripers have been taken by jigging diamond jigs and also on bucktails with 7 inch Gulps Jerk Shad or large Fin S.
Let’s hope the weather continues to cooperate. More next week;
