Fishing offshore was very good at the beginning of the week and inshore remained steady as the air and the water continue to cool.
Tog continue to be on the radar of many local anglers and green crabs along with clams have yielded nice results.
Stripers have begun to show up in greater numbers and along with the bridge fishermen, some of our customers have taken them on the troll off the beaches and have also had some luck drifting eels and clams. Croakers can still be found in fifty or so feet of water and clams are the bait of choice for them. Smallish blue fish can be found in the bays and sea bass re-opens the first of the month and tog follows on the sixteenth.
Offshore on Sunday and Monday, many of our local anglers cleaned up on the tuna. Wally, Ross Don and John on the “Driller” worked the east wall of the Wilmington Canyon and got covered up with yellowfin tuna. They kept a total of 18 fish. These fish were in the 40 to 70 pound range. All were caught on the chunk using butter fish and sardines. Larry Stout and crew on “Diamond Girl” also were on the east wall of the Wilmington and went 22 for 30 on yellowfin and these fish were taken on the chunk. They also had a 63 pound long fin to go along with the other fish. The yellowfin were in the 30 to 70 pound class. Finally, Ken Wallace and crew,(Dave, Harry, Frank and Bill) on his boat “Full Course” were also on the east wall of the Wilmington and had 12 nice yellowfin in the 40 to 60 pound class. They also boated a nice dolphin. These fish were also taken on the chunk.
Congrats to all. More next week;
