Brennan Marine, somers Point fishing report 10-2
October 1, 2011
Fishing this week was marked by an influx of small blue fish in the bays and continued exceptional tog action. While stripers continue to be caught at night, king fish have begun to feed aggressively in the surf.
In the rivers perch continue to be caught on blood worms. Green crabs have been the bait of choice for tog and clams have been used to catch bass. Some of our customers have used top water plugs along the sod banks and have had some luck with the bass also. Kingfish have been taken almost exclusively on blood worms and their size and numbers appear to have increased over the past week.
Offshore was where the real action was this week. On three separate overnight trips three of our customers did extremely well. From September 29th to the 30th, Larry Stout and crew on his boat “Diamond Girl” fished the Spencer Canyon and limited out on yellow fin tuna. They had a total of 18 fish ranging from thirty to eighty pounds. They were chunking butter fish and sardines. Ed Reese and crew on his boat “Hatt Aweigh” also fished the Spencer from September 30th to October 1st and went two for three on swordfish one being 70 pounds the other 150 pounds. They also had seven yellow fin tuna and five mahi mahi. All these fish were taken on the chunk. The grand prize goes to Bob Cummings and crew on “Bonnie Lee”. They fished the Lindenkohl Canyon on September 26th and 27th. They caught and released two swordfish and caught 26 yellow fin tuna. They kept 21 fish. These tuna ranged in size from thirty to fifty pounds and were also caught on the chunk. Bruce, Brian, Jason, Bob Jr., Jon and Bruce Jr. were on board. Nice going boys.
More next week;
