Fishing this week was, as usual, good by all accounts and anglers, inshore and offshore had nice catches.
Early in the week, Bob, Bruce, Jon, Jason, Bobby and young Katlyn Cummings fished offshore on the “Bonnie Lee”. They worked the Lindenkohl and some of the Spencer and had a 62 inch blue fin which they released and a 45 inch blue fin which they kept. They also had three yellow fin in the 60 pound class which they boated and kept. They were dragging ballyhoo, covered with Ilanders, spreader bars and other plastic. Young Katlyn (ten years old) enjoyed watching the whales on her first ever offshore trip.
Randy Aikins fished in roughly the same area on his boat “All In” and caught a 53.5 pound yellow fin while dragging an assortment lures and ballyhoo.
Closer to home, young Dante Bucci, fished the GE Inlet and ended up with a 30 inch striper that weighed in at just over 11 pounds. Apparently in our discussions with the bridge fishermen, stripers can be had at night on various baits and surface lures.
During the week Bob Whiteside fished the bay behind Somers Point and had a few keeper flounder which means that not all of the fluke have moved out just yet. Bob Heins and grandson Mike on Bob’s boat “K’s Krew” fished Ships Channel over the weekend and ended up with couple of keepers. Young Mike bagged a nineteen inch fluke that weighed in at 2.1 pounds. They were fishing with Gulps at the time. The ratio of keepers to throw backs however is still heavily distorted in favor of the throwbacks.
The inshore reefs are beginning to produce keeper flounder and larger sea bass. Additionally, we’ve had reports of large numbers of snapper blues being caught on and around these reefs.
More next week;
