Fishing this week continued to be good with offshore action continuing to lead the way although flounder can still be taken in large numbers in the bays and inlets.
Over the weekend, Charlie Falkenstein and crew on his boat “Play Pen” fished the Texel, just short of the Lindenkohl and boated two nice yellow fin tuna both in the fifty pound class. They then proceeded to the Lindy and caught and released a white marlin in the fifty to sixty pound class. All these fish were caught on ballyhoo, some naked some covered with Ilanders.
Carl Smollinger and company on his boat “Night Moves” fished the Quicksand again just short of the Lindenkohl. They boated four nice yellow fin tuna in the 70 pound class. They proceeded to the Lindy and caught and released a small Mako shark. They were fishing with ballyhoo and spreader bars.
Ron Kovler and crew on his boat “Next Case” fished the Lindy and Spencer and went two for four on large yellow fin. All fish were in the fifty to sixty pound class. These fish were caught on ballys and plastic.
Tom and Jerry Little on their boat “Mischievous” also fished the Lindenkohl and boated a 70 plus pound yellow fin tuna and 16 mahi-mahi . The dolphin were all in the ten to fifteen pound range.
Chris Daggett fished the Spencer on the “Pain Relief” and caught a 41 inch 16.7 pound dolphin on a bally.
Inshore, Bob Heins fished the bay behind Somers Point and over approximately a six hour period caught sixty five flounder but managed only two keepers. He was fishing on his boat “K’s Krew” and was using a combination of minnows and finger mullet.
Not a bad week overall.
More next week.
