Fishing this week was good overall and action continued to be consistent both inshore and offshore.
Flounder fishing has been productive and during the week Al Rocks on his boat “Brutus” fished the area around the Parkway Bridge and in front of Kennedy Park. He caught an astounding 75 fish and ended up with eight keepers. He was using a combination of Gulps and whole squid. The largest of the keepers was 24 inches and weighed in at 3.61 pounds. The rest of them were between 21 and 24 inches and in the 2 to 3 pound class. On Saturday, Bob Heins fished the area just off the Ocean City toll bridge and caught 15 fish and ended up with two keepers. He was using Chartreuse Gulp Jerk shad on a Spro Bucktail and said the bite was pretty much non-stop.
On Tuesday Ron Kovler fished the canyons and had a 36 and a 34
pound yellow fin. There have also been reports of large dolphin being taken and white and blue marlins have been raised and caught also. On Tuesday, Don Orlen, on the “Joe Anna” fished Masseys Canyon and had 5 blue fin tuna up to 65 pounds, their one keeper. They also reported catching large dolphin on the trip.
Offshore, combinations of artificial lures and ballyhoo either naked or covered with Ilanders or sea witches seem to be doing the trick. We have also heard of good sized Mako sharks being taken on these trips.
More next week;
