This week wind and waves conspired to keep anglers on shore but there were a few windows and the locals took advantage of them.
On Monday, Al Rocks and crew fished the bay around Somers Point and bagged four nice bass. The first two keepers were caught near the Parkway Bridge and were both in the 35 inch range. The next two fish he caught were in the GE Inlet. The larger of the two fish was 37 inches and weighed in at just over 20 pounds. They were on Al’s boat “Brutus II” and they caught these fish on a combination of fresh bunker and salted clams.
Bob Cummings and crew on his boat “Lady J” fished the Delaware Bay two days this week and ended up with nine bass with the majority of these fish in excess of thirty pounds. He chunks and fishes with fresh bunker.
The surf fishermen say that bass can still be found in the surf and a combination of fresh bait and plugs seem to do the trick. The bridge fishermen report that tog can still be taken with green crabs and there are some sea bass mixed in with them.
The offshore reefs still hold large tog and big sea bass but weather has limited trips.
The striped bass seem to be moving into the bays in preparation for going up the rivers and in the Delaware Bay in particular there seem to be large concentrations of big bass. We will be open until Christmas Eve and have all the fresh bait and tackle necessary to chase bass and tog.
More next week;
