Fishing this week was good but was inhibited somewhat by the offshore hurricane activity.
The inshore reefs continued to produce sea bass, croakers, small blue fish and keeper flounder.
The GE Reef and the OC Reef in particular have been active and mid-week Robert Korden on the “Kristin D” fished on the reefs and bagged a 24.5 inch fluke which weighed in at 5.56 pounds. He was fishing with a combination of minnows, squid and Gulps at the time. Mike Fox on the “High Trend” also fished inshore and had a number of fluke in the two pound class. Sea bass of some size have been taken on squid and minnows at these reefs and croakers can be found in forty to fifty feet of water off Ocean City. They seem to prefer clams and cut mullet.
Offshore the action was curtailed somewhat by heavy seas but Friday night Joe Hevener and crew on his boat, “Reel Teasers” ventured to the East wall of the Hudson Canyon and really hit pay dirt. They were covered up by yellow fin tuna in the 80 to 100 pound class and went nine for twelve. They were in approximately 490 feet of water that was 79 degrees. Because of sea conditions they couldn’t troll but they chunked butter fish and loaded up on large fish. The action was non-stop for nearly three hours when they finally called it quits. Nice going Joe.
More next week;
