November 14, 2010

Once again this week the name of the game was striped bass all over and all the time.
Early in the week Ted Bolton fishing on the “Red Head” bagged a 22lb. striper that measured 38 inches. He was fishing in the GE Inlet and was using clams and eels at the time. Next day, Sean Scarborough and Joe Kelley worked the GE Inlet on Sean’s boat “Chuckles” and each landed a nice bass. Joe had a fish that weighed in at 18 pounds even and Sean had a 15.8 lb. bass that measured 35 inches. They were using a combination of clams and eels also. Mid-week Bob Cummings on his boat “Lady J” fished the Delaware Bay and caught a number of nice bass the largest of which weighed 31 pounds and measured 45 inches. He was using fresh bunker. Don P. and Danny T. on their boat “Serious Therapy” fished just south of the Cuma Lumps and had large bass to 25 pounds. They were dragging large bunker spoons until they ran into a pile of birds at which time they began to jig with bucktails and Hopkins and were covered up with bass. They also had a number of monster blue fish mixed in with the bass.
Over the weekend, Jim Sagerholm on his boat “No Sail” fished the same area South of Ocean City around the Cuma Lumps but North of Corson’s Inlet and had all the bass he could handle. He too was trolling large spoons, umbrella rigs and Stretch 25’s and had a number of fish in the 15 to 20 pound range. He too reported monster blue fish mixed in with the stripers.
Tog continue to be caught around the bridges and green crabs are the bait of choice. Some anglers have ventured to the reefs to fish for sea bass and apparently have not been disappointed.
The winner of last week’s prize in our tournament was Bob Cummings with a 36 pound bass.
More next week;
