i think everyone that has tried it will never go back to mono.I tried it a few years ago and now every reel has braid execpt for some 50w's.Once you try it you will end up putting it on all your reels

    Thumbs up

I agree some what with the last statement. There are times when I prefer Mono over braid. I like Mono when livelining, or fishing three ways with whole dead bait for Bass.
I will tell you this, 4 years ago I went to Braid on all my plugging and rubber bait rods for the beach and my hook ups sky rocketed. I would not think of tossing artificials without braid.
I use power pro 30 for my Vs150's and 50 for Vs 200 and 250. Other reels such as ss1600 i use 30pp. Make sure you come tight with the line B/4 you flip the bail or put it on the roller and you should stop those wind knots. I have also found you need to spool braid tight on the spool when you first put it on. Store your rods with the line slack at the tip to avoid flat spots in the braid which seems to cause weak spots.
The brand you use is up to you but remember its strong stuff and has 0 strech and will cut you deep. Watch the rating on your rods also so you don't start snapping them by using to heavy tested line.

I have switched over to braid after trying to hold out for a long time. My fluke catches have gone up a lot, and you can fish deep water with less weight. With Tog I use it, although some tog pro's still like mono. I tie a 10ft top shot of 30lb mono on when I tog, that way I can break off rocks easier. I use it for striped bass.."rockfish" and love it as well, you can feel subtle bites better. I often fish my bait a good distance off the transom and when there is some slack in the line, I can still feel a bite which gets me ready quicker and has increased my hook up ratio. I use 50lb for fluke fishing, and 50-65lb power pro for bass. I know I could go lighter, but with lighter braid, I felt it was harder to untangle and in strong currents that I often see I was displeased with how it fished, for me 50-65 has worked well. I even have switched all my 30's and 50's over to hollowcore braid with mono topshots, as well as downsized a lot of my gear. I can increase my line capacity on smaller gear, no more 50 wides, 30wides and 50narrows for my bars. I'd say going to braid is well worth it. Also as a note, a lot of guys I know fill their inshore reels full of braid, there is no need for that, fill 150-200 of braid and have the the rest be backing of mono, filling a whole spool with braid is expensive, and half that line will never see the water, a mono backing allows you to have good capacity yet and save a few bucks.

In my opinion , Mono does not compare to braid in the least, when it comes to this type of fishing.

Braid for all of the above, wouldn't go back to mono for any price. One good tip is the shock leader though, I start with 8 feet of mono from 30 to 60 on the end connected by an Alberto knot. I'll cut it back over time until it's 4-5 feet long and then change it unless it gets nicked or beat up in which case I'll retie.

It helps you keep fish hooked while still giving you the advantage of braid, just preventing the head shakes form causing pulled hooks.

The other use is that it makes an excellent place to grab instead of shredding your hands with the braid and when tangles happen they're often at the end of the lines and with the shocker you're untangling mono rather than braid.

Bryan whats up dude its vic. The hudson river tournaments coming up time for a repeat j/k. I switched to braid a few years ago and loved it but lost alot of fish cause of it for bottom fishing its the best. But since fishing with Chuck Many and Timmy and using the mono i think im gonna swith all my bass rods back to the mono. Ive notice weve missed less fish and once hooked weve pulled the hook less with the mono that the braid. Im gonna exsperiment this yeAR USING 1/2 RODS WITH BRAID AND THE OTHER 1/2 WITH MONO.

We are switching all of our bass rods back to mono with the exception of our jigging rods which we need to use braid for the butterfly jigs and for bottom fishing ie: tog, tilefish, sea bass etc.

We are also using hollow core spectra with mono top shots on our 30's and using these for most of our canyon fishing.
