Bluewater Sportfishing/ Risky Business Report 4/10/2009 Drum and Stripers

Today we had the John Mariana Group along with sean for some spring cape may striped bass. On the way out close to my spot I saw a bunch of bird play so I stopped on it and marked good bait and fish. After getting lines in nothing really happened then all of a sudden John says he hooked up, I look over and the rod is doubled over. I said to myself hmm that looks like a drumfish, after a few minutes of john fighting the fish it never came up so I knew right there we had a drumfish, what a surprise it was when we saw the golden brown colors of a NICE 40 LB or so drum come up. After boating the fish not much else was biting so I made the move to where I was yesterday. Pulled in and marked fish, got tight on the anchor and sean got a line in and had a fish on right away. It was a nice healthy striper, short of the 28" mark but non the less a sigh of good things to come.......wrong! we sat there for the remainder of the slack tide with nothing biting.

The three boys that were with John were getting antsy so I was just praying the tide would turn soon, I gave them a time I said we will start catching at 12:30, well at 12:31 fish on and from that point on it was crazy fishing catching 5 keepers and a ton of shorts. Seems the larger keepers I had yesterday moved on the moon to spawn...but none the less the kids were happy with the action and so was john and sean.
here is a pic from today.

I have some openings on monday if you want to go out to bend some rods and have a hell of a time doing it,
