Bluefin Tuna

While i was in Block Island catching Stripeds Bass, Captain Mark Debalsio took the Intruder 138 miles east of Barnegat Inlet and released 26 Bluefin Tuna IN THE 30 LB CLASS and had a Mako estimated at 400 lbs hit twice with the Harpoon but did not cooperate. All in all a Great trip to the deep. WATER WAS 65 DEGREES AND THE Tuna HIT Green Machines and GM Spreader Bars.

Now that is a great trip! I hope you didn't break my boat doing it. I'll bring my trusty fklyer when I come. Makos wont bounce off it...

According to COPS, the Harpoon bounced off the gill plate the first time then pulled out the second time.

I hear ya, the Bass are thick everywhere in Block Island. We caught them just about every spot in the boat and even caught them off the Jetty in the old Harbor.

We had a great trip for this early in the year. It was nice to break the ice for 2005 on the Intruder. Dont worry Paul , the boat ran perfectly. I am going to help Ken pull together a few things so that by the time you are up here for shark fishing, the boat will be perfect. The trip came together last minute and unfortunately, there was no flyer on the boat. I was up on the bridge and wasnt going to let Brian use a small straight gaff on a 400+ pound bag of teeth, so the harpoon was our only option.

That sounds like a great trip. 138 miles is a haul.

I am accustomed to long runs, we ended up running 115 to find the break, dropped em in and had the first fish on before the entire spread was in the water. After pounding that area with non stop action , we trolled another 20 miles east in search of larger bluefin . We overnighted at another large temp break SE of the Fishtails in 200 fathoms and had the mako around 1am. The drift carried us further east. By the time I fired up the Detroits to resume trolling , we were 138 from Barnegat Inlet. All in all a great trip to get 2005 started.,

Mark

Mark you did fine. Ken told me of the flyer ommission so you are off the hook kind of but I would have torn offf an out rigger and fabricated one or tied one line between Brian and the gaff and another to the cleat! Any way you guys had a great trip and deserve a round of applause... Great going again! Can't wait to get there...
