I should have listenened to my Old Friend last year when the bloodworms became scarce. He told me a trick about getting more for my money out of an overpriced bag of bloodworms, which work better for spot than anything else...Fishbites and sandfleas included.
It is inevitable that they will die in the fridge if left to lng. They also wash out fairly quick on the hook, especially after a couple spots chew on it. The solution to the problem is simple. SALT. Plain old Table salt liberally applied to the little rascals.
Get all the dirt and grass off the worms and throw em in a tupperware container. Liberally apply salt and cover quickly, they will shoot blood three feet across the room sometimes when the salt hits them. Gently roll them around in the salt a couple times and leave them in the fridge. They will work great for up to a year. The longer they stay the blacker they turn. The best thing is how tough it makes them. You will be able to catch 6-7 fish on the same piece.
Now go catch a chesapeake bay yellowbelly.
Splittin and Gashin lesson coming next. I am deep frying spot for 16 women tommorrow at the wife's bookclub meeting. I'll be nothing but a pile of bones when their done. Stay tuned to grillin and chillin for the fried spot feast.
