Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Melfa, Virginia

Black drum tournament in its third year

The Eastern Shore of Virginia Chamber of Commerce invites anglers to the third annual Black Drum World Championship Fishing Tournament to be held May 15-17, 2009. The tournament will again be based at Bay Creek Marina in Cape Charles, Va.
Registration forms are available online at www.esvachamber.org/festivals/drumfish, at the Chamber of Commerce building in Melfa, and at several Eastern Shore tackle shops. Early bird registration, which must be received by May 1, will save a team $50, putting the cost at $200 per boat for as many as six anglers. Each angler beyond that to as many as eight anglers is $50 per angler. After May 1 until May 15, registration costs $250 per boat for as many as six anglers. No registrations will be accepted after 5 p.m. May 15.
The Chamber must have a minimum of 40 boats registered by May 1 to hold the tournament, so early registrations are encouraged.
Cash prizes totaling $6,000 and trophies will be presented to the top three teams of the tournament.
Friday’s happenings will include a tagging seminar at 5:30 p.m., a mandatory captains meeting at 6:30 p.m. and banquet immediately following. Fishing will be Saturday and Sunday. Saturday weigh-in is from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday weigh-in is from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Generous sponsors have contributed to the tournament’s third year. Our Chesapeake sponsors include Chris’ Bait & Tackle, Gowen & Associates, O’Connor & Co. Inc., and J.H. West Seafood, Inc. Our Kings Creek sponsors include Bay Propeller, Cape Charles Yacht Center/Southport Investors, Davis Disposal/Ashby Construction, Eastern Shore News, Eastern Shore Outfitters and Mid Atlantic Marine Group. Shore Ice, Inc., is sponsoring the posters.
The 2008 Black Drum World Championship attracted a field of 336 anglers and 66 vessels. Anglers hailed from eight states, ranging north to south from New York to Alabama, and as far west as West Virginia and Ohio. The winning drum weighed 79.18 pounds.
Please visit www.esvachamber.org/festivals/drumfish for more information, or call (757) 787-2460 with any questions or to have a registration form mailed.

This tournament has been fun in the past. Bay Creek Marina is under new management and they are excited to host this event.

how far from Delaware Bay?

Bay Creek Marina is about 130 miles south from the Lewes Ferry...allow two hours and forty-five minutes when towing, maybe a little more or less depending on traffic...

I keep hearing about this, I really need to do it, we burned em pretty good last year. Let me see if I can convince a friend to quit golfing and come fishing for a day...

I need to find a boat too or a motor, the lower unit on the ol 76' evinrude isint very happy lately.

Unless this is an invite on your boat, I know that can be dangerous to the liver!
