Bill's Sport Shop/The Wharf Restaurant Tournament

The Wharf Restaurant in Lewes is the location this year for the
striper/tautog Friday night buffet. The 2010 Striper Tournament will be held
from Oct. 15th till Dec. 10th. The entry fee is $75.00 and an additional
$25.00 for tautog. It includes a free T shirt and free buffet for you and a
guest every Fri. night. First place for the striper winner this year will
be $3000.00, 2nd place, $2000.00 and third, $1000.00. In the tautog
category, 1st place will be $1000.00, 2nd, $500.00 and third, $250.00.

New this year will be a Calcutta: Winner take all! For the striper Calcutta,
$50.00 and for the tautog Calcutta, $25.00.

Fishing News

>Dan and Matt Langdon fishing with THE DREAM TEAM on the "Offishal" caught 2
of 3 longfin to 40 lb using spreader bars and green machines. The team also
boated a bunch of dolphin on ballyhoo deep in the Baltimore.

>Larry Jock was delivering his Coastal Fisherman and told me that the
"Billfisher", an OC charter boat, caught and released 56 whites.

>We are actually getting reports of short weakies being caught in the
Rehoboth Bay along with sea bass, croaker and flounder.

>Flounder, croaker and sea bass are being taken at B Buoy and the Old

Grounds.

>At the IRI, blues and plenty of short flounder are showing up. There are
also reports of nice croakers and spot.

>The Baltimore Canyon, at the 40 fathom line, yellowfins, false albacore,
and dolphin are being captured trolling naked ballyhoo behind an Ilander
daisy chain.

>A 742 lb blue was weighed in at IR Sept 1. Whites and blues are in the
Poormans at 700 fathoms.

>Chris Wagner and crew trolled from the Tea Cup to the tip of the Baltimore
using ballyhoo and picked up 24 mahi to 20 lbs.

>Louie Sartori and crew went to the 30-40 line behind the Tea Cup and came
back with 19 mahi over 20 lbs. They lost 2 wahoo at the boat.

>Bobbie from the Pier called to tell us that the spot have reappeared in
huge numbers.

>Sue Foster of Oyster Bay Tackle, OC, let us know that Hurricane Earl gave
us some swells, dirty water, and bluefish! Fall is just around the corner
when we see finger mullet hopping in the surf and the inlets, and blues
started biting. Flounder fishing was a bit off because of the dirty water
conditions, but surprisingly, anglers caught some the next day after the
storm. Spot, croaker, tautog, and sharks are still around. Sea bass picked
up big time. There are more larger flounder offshore.

>Captain Carey Evans of "Grizzly Sportfishing" continues to see good numbers
of flounder which should continue thru early October. Seabass fishing is
showing signs of a good fall season. The off shore scene has seen nice mixed
bag catches as well. On a recent trip they harvested 18 of 70 flounder. They
got in a day trolling trip and harvested a handful of yellowfin and a nice
52 lb wahoo.

Boating Course

The USCG Auxiliary, Indian River Flotilla, will be presenting a seven-week
Boating Skills & Seamanship Course (BS&S) starting on Monday, Sept. 13 at
Short's Marine off Long Neck Road, Millsboro. Classes run from 7 p.m. to 9
p.m. each Monday, although the first session begins at 6:30 p.m. to
accommodate the sign-up process. The cost is $35 per student and includes an
excellent textbook. The cost for students who own or can share the textbook
is $15. Preregistration is required because the class often fills to
capacity before the course begins. To enroll, call Instructor Andy Smith at

ASMFC VOTES TO INCREASE SEA BASS SEASON

The proposed new sea bass season will run from May 22 through October 11,
with an additional open period of November 1 through December 31. The
proposal would keep the size and bag limit the same of 12-1/2 inches and 25
fish per angler. Sheepshead and triggerfish will continue to be legal.
