Good Tuna Fishing Tuesday-Wednesday Trip! 10-19

Tuna fishing was good on the Tuesday/Wednesday Canyon Trip. 69 - 70 degree water moved in just east of the canyon. When we arrived we fished for Mahi-Mahi for awhile. We saw plenty but they were fussy. We boated about 30 up to 10LBS.

Our first drift for tuna produced 3 longfin tuna up to 65LBS and we lost a few. On our next drift we caught one right away and dropped the anchor. We landed a couple more and waited for the bite to begin.

It was slow fishing early in the evening with a few tuna, a couple of short mako's, and three keeper swordfish. Around 10PM fishing picked up and by 12 midnight, it was good fishing. The catch was 65% yellowfin and 35% Longfin. The tuna were caught on either bait or jigs fished 110' to 140' down.

Bait produced the most tuna with sardines and butterfish catching more than live squid (which was plentiful Tuesday night).

High hook was:

John Kastler from Plamerton PA with 3 yellowfin, 2 longfin and several mahi.

Mike Havecost from Wall, NJ landed 3 yellowfin, a few mahi and released a small sword and a small mako,

Dennis Krell Tomaque PA caught 3 yellowfin,

Slivio Manselle from North Plainfield NJ caught 2 tuna, a swordfish and a mahi,

Jason Keets landed 2 tuna, 1 swordfish and a mahi.

It looks good for the weekend. There are two good bodies of warm water moving into the canyon and both are holding fish. The weather looks very good for the weekend and we have space available on all of the trips sailing this weekend.

The Jamaica is scheduled to sail offshore at 5PM Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Bluefishing

Bluefishing was very good over the weekend. There were plenty of big blues up to 15LBS caught.

The Jamaica Star will sail for bluefish every Saturday and Sunday at 7:30AM. Night trips for Bluefish will sail Saturday at 7:30PM.
