Hot Tuna Fishing - Boat Limit of Yellowfin - Tuesday Trip



9-21 Report

Our first Canyon trip of the year was very good! We had a limit catch of yellowfin up to 60LBS for everyone on board.

When we arrived at the canyon we were going to try for Mahi-Mahi but on the way to the edge we ran over a big school of tuna. We had fish on immediately. Yellowfin were caught on either bait or jigs, with bait having the edge for the daytime bite.

We stayed on the drift for 4 hour, drifting over 4 miles, and picked tuna and skipjacks all the way until the bite finally died. We had landed 30 tuna by the end of the drift. We moved and tried another drift with no luck.

At sundown we set up on anchor and had fish on right away before the anchor came tight. We landed another 8 and lost several before the bite died. It was slow through the night as only a few more were landed, we lost a few, plus a couple of swordfish releases and one big one that straightened out the hook.

At 5AM the tuna began to school heavily under the boat and started to feed, by 5:30 it was mayhem! Tuna were hooked on jigs, bait, and poppers. By 6:45 we had a limit catch for the entire boat.

We read plenty of tuna, baitfish and skipjacks in the area. It looks good for our upcoming trips. There is still space available on the trip sailing Sunday at 5PM, our 30 hour trips next Tuesday and Thursday, and trips through October.

We will be running Albacore specials sailing 6AM Every Friday and Wednesday starting

Sept. 23 and Monday Oct. 10, Columbus Day. If the Jamaica is offshore the 110' Jamaica Star will sail for Albacore.

The Jamaica Star will also sail for bluefish and albacore every Saturday and Sunday at 7:30AM. Night trips for Bluefish will Friday & Saturday at 7:30PM.
