Big Jamaica Offshore Report 3-5-11

Offshore fishing was pretty good Saturday. We caught cod on every spot we fished up to 18LBS and a good number of jumbo Pollock up to 38LBS. More than we have seen in several years. At times there were big readings of Pollock and bait moving under the boat. They did not want the bait however, when the passengers began using Jigs & teasers the Pollock began to feed.

Some notable catches:

Mike Armbuster from Allentown PA caught 4 pollock from 18 to 32LBS (one double header on a jig & teaser),

Chris Yeates from Brookfield CT caught 3 jumbos including the 38LB pool winner and 2 cod.

Bob Synowiez from Owego NY took second with a 35LB Pollock, another big Pollock and 3 cod.

Morris Duckett from Allentown PA caught 3 jumbo Pollock.

The next Offshore Wreck trip is scheduled for an 11PM Departure on Friday March 11.

Fishing has been good on the 20 - 40 mile wreck trips and the offshore trips our last trip produced over 80 keepers up to 20LBS.

The big Jamaica is scheduled to sail for cod every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 4AM and 3AM on Sunday's. Friday night's we are scheduled to sail offshore at 11PM through March and into April.

There is still plenty of good fishing ahead. When we used to have cod in our area we would catch them right into May. March and April should be good months for cod fishing.
