Big Jamaica Cod Report 3-14-11

Because of the good weather report and, I already heard from the Paramount that fishing is very good again this morning, we will add a trip for Tuesday at 4AM in addition to Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 4AM,

11PM Friday night offshore wrecks and 3AM Sunday.

We had a good weekend of codfishing. Saturday was the best day of the year with high hooks of up to 25 keepers. Fishing was just crazy with many double headers coming over the rail.

Sunday started out good but was slower through the day. We still wound up with a pretty good day of codfishing. Some anglers only caught a couple and a some had as many as 16 keepers. A few were caught on jigs but most were caught on clams.

Pool winners were:

Eli Posluk from Brooklyn NY with a 10LB cod and 16 keepers, (Sunday)

Mike Soden from East Windsor NJ with a 10LB cod and 25 keepers,

High hooks:

Kerwin Singletary Burlington, 22 cod,

Don Destefano Harkers IS NC, 22 cod Saturday, 15 cod Sunday,

Chris Steinert from Brick NJ 25 cod,

Willie Williams from Willingboro NJ 22 cod,

Ben Frazier from Syracuse NY, 24 cod,

Joe Lecates & Jose Cruz from Medford NJ combined for 21 cod Sunday.

The big Jamaica is scheduled to sail for cod Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 4AM and 3AM on Sunday’s. Friday night’s we are scheduled to sail offshore at 11PM through March and into April.

There is still plenty of good fishing ahead. When we used to have cod in our area we would catch them right into May. March and April should be good months for cod fishing.
