The other area of concern was in Ocean County. The Brant Beach section of Long Beach Township has been hit hardest.
Long Beach Township Deputy Police Chief Leslie Houston said with any coastal storm there will be significant erosion on the township’s beaches. Houston said at the 75th Street beach there is a 25-foot drop from erosion.
“We have nothing, no beaches left to protect,” Houston said.
Houston said there are also jetties in the Beach Haven Terrace section of the township that have been exposed up to the base of the dune.
Long Beach Township Mayor Joseph Mancini said beaches from 75th to 81st streets in the Beach Haven Crest section are just as bad as beaches in Brant Beach.
“We’re doing everything we can to protect beaches out there. We’ve brought in extra bulldozers and rented more equipment. And now we have another storm coming,” he said.
Mancini said after the storm expected to begin today, the township will start bringing in sand to replenish the beaches and dunes.
