Back at it! Its been a little while since I seen one of these striped little guys. With so much going on last week I was not able to make it up for both days and just Sunday only.
I try to get my brothers out fishing with me as much as I can toleratelast year was their 1st canyon trip and this year took them up to New Bedford with me to show them around. They both love to fish but don't get to do it as much as I do so when ever and where ever possible I try to bring them along.
After many delays of the intial leave time of 1pm Saturday. Anyone that knows my brother Tom knows I should of left him behind and went as planed. Started out from my house at 7:30 rolled in to New beford ar 3:30 am, traffic was ridcoulus all the way up in to New Haven.
2AM starts the pep talk. This had to be one of best things in the world for me, the shoe on the other foot with them. Both my brothers are older than me and I am the baby. So started the conversation on what to do and what not to do mainly if I say something it meant to listen. I take tournaments very seriously, and it was a tough call to bring them because they really are not good with controling the rod or fish. So I knew I had my hands full with it. They both did very well and I was happy to see them learning new things and finally get to see what I do. They would of been happier if they had some sleep, I was fine I am use to it!
4:45 rolls around real quick time to get to the boat and get started and make the hour run. The fog is patchy but not to bad!
Get set up, chunking chunking chunking. Put the brothers in rotation with the chunks.
Fish on after fish on. We all took turns at them. A few where lost but thats something I already pre-paired myself to deal with. A little coaching went a long way, at home my brothers may see 1 or 2 in their trips in to the Barnegat Bay, but they have never seen 10 of them in one day!
Mid day I thought I had the mothorship of all striped bass, reeling and reeling. All along something didn't feel right, something was just plain wrong. I knew the fish was not wrapped but the rod felt real goofy, it felt big, like its mouth was a mile wide and it was wide open. Finally moments of taken care and ease to get the fish to the boat, we had an 18 lb'r foul hooked it the side. It must of bumped the head and whamo stuck him, good at that.
We had at least 10 to the boat lost 2, 2 mystery slam dunks and kept a 23 lbr for the scales.
All and all I am tired! It was a really fun I have never taken a road trip just me and my brothers. My brother Tom works real well for entertainment on the ride home when he falls asleep and you can use him as a bobble head doll by slamming on the brakesCouldn't quite reach the dash but got'em lightly with the passenger window. It was too easy when you are going in stop and go traffic
We laughed pretty hard all the way home!
It was great seeing everyone and see you in Old Saybrook!
Cheapshot the ride looks sweet best of luck with her!
I'll post up some pictures in a little bit
