August 7, 2011 - Today was not the best of days, but not the worst. Most regulars stayed home in fear of the rain that never came. We had some rain around 6:00 AM and there likely was some on land this afternoon, but it was dry on the water. We fished hard looking for some keepers and only found a few in most spots, and some prime areas were bare. As is often the case, one drift during the day makes your day, and today was no exception. We had 1/2 our catch on one drift with Kieth Williams high hook with 5 keepers. A few others had 2 and 3 and some with only shorts. Roger Aye from Fort Lee, NJ had the first keeper of the day and it turned out to be the biggest.
The big news is the Big Pool is now worth $3,000. We bet Teddy is having some sleepless nights. Then again, he went through this last year and won with a smaller fish than he has now.
The ANGLER has a charter trip on FRIDAY, AUGUST 12. Our regular morning trip is CANCELED, but our Night Striper Trip will sail as normal at 6:30 PM.
John Hrubric - August 6August 6, 2011 - Fluke fishing started out okay until the tide changed and the South wind came on. We went down the beach when the drift in the channels became too fast. We were disappointed since we only found just a few keepers and only fair short action in spots that usually produce this time of the year. We ended up back in the Bay where we picked one or two a drift.
August 6 PorgyEveryone worked hard, but the Fluke won today. John Hrubric from Linden, NJ took today's pool. Our Big Pool is now $2,980. We will try some new spots tomorrow.
The Saturday night trip turned out great with a boat full of happy folks. Before leaving the dock, we told them that conditions were going to be tough and that we were not going to be able to fish some of the areas we would like to. We headed out to try some Fluke fishing and wound up with a dozen keeper Fluke. No monsters, but nice keepers along with just enough shorts to keep busy.
August 6 PorgyWe moved on to Porgy fishing and had a banner night with them. High hook could only be figured out by pounds in the bucket! We had to fish at anchor because of the weather and only landed three Stripers. The pool winner was Matt Fenney with a respectable Fluke to go along with his bucket full of porgies. We had a group of 11 young adults on board and they had a blast in spite of the weather. This fun loving group included Kathy, Eric, Russ, Mellissa, Christina, Alicia and Jeff.
