Dan Shelton is a 25-year-old outdoorsman from Millville and Ed Marcantonio of Ocean City is retired and had his first decent year of fishing.
Shelton got a 55 ln Bass and Shelton won the bluefish division.
They have some things in common. They are winners of The Press 2009 Bent Rods Fishing Contest fall season striped bass and bluefish awards. Both fish were caught in the final days of the fall segment, which ran from Sept. 21 to Nov. 29, in Delaware Bay and registered at Longreach Marina on the Maurice River.
The fall segment had a third category - weakfish - but there were no entries. In addition to striped bass and bluefish awards of $150 gift certificates, a special prize was offered by Jim Wallace of Jim's Bait and Tackle Shop in Cape May for heaviest black drumfish of the year. It goes to Mark McPherson of North Cape May with an 89-pound drum caught back on May 24, and gives Delaware Bay a sweep of the three categories.
