100' Paramount report 12-06
Updated 12/06/09
Capt. Francis Bogan
Blackfish – Ling
Was another week of nice weather, then wind/rain, then nice, then wind/rain/snow. Ahhh winter is upon us!
Saw some good Blackfishing this past week with lots of action and throwbacks, some keepers depending on the day, and a resurgence of the Ling fishing!
Monday’s marathon on 11/30/09 saw Ding Hunan from Fort Lee land 3 keeper Blackfish with 3 times as many throwbacks, Charles Kerekes from Belmar had 2 keepers and a dozen throwbacks, Tom Peters from Teaneck, NJ had 2 keepers, one was the pool winner at around 4 pounds, and Mark Lofton from Passaic, NJ had 12 fish, 3 of them were keepers. Most anglers caught from 5 to 10 blackfish each but kept 2 or less.
Wednesday’s Ling Special was good, with Noel Westerlind from Leonardo, NJ landing 25 Ling for the high hook, Dennis Stock had 16 Ling, Bolo Steptoe had 13 Ling, one of which was a 4lb. pool winner, the rest of the boat had from 6 to 12 per person. The Ling were also larger than they had been a few weeks ago, which gave some quality to the quantity!
Friday’s Marathon was one of those days where you could catch lots of fish, but the guys with “the touch” had the keepers. Roger Farr from Whitehouse Station and Guy Humphrey from Hillsborough had 11 keeper Blackfish between them, one of which won the pool at about 8lbs., along with at least 20 throwbacks.
Brian Nixon from Philadelphia had 3 keeper Blackfish and 10 throwbacks, Bolo Steptoe was out again and had 2 keepers and some throwbacks as well.
The Paramount is sailing every Wednesday hitting the deep water wrecks for Ling from 6:30am to 3:30pm and every Friday and Saturday night for Ling from 7:00pm to 1:00am
Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday the Paramount sails from 6:30am till 3:30pm for Blackfish.
Our Monday & Friday Marathons are also targeting Blackfish. If blackfishing is slow we may make a deeper drop for some Ling and Cod if time permits, but our primary target right now is Blackfish. Trips sail every Monday & Friday from 6:30am to 5:00 pm. Our Marathon offers a longer day, enabling the captain to hit more or further spots, whatever is needed.
The Paramount will have several Hungry Man Ling Marathons sailing over the next couple months. Trips sail from 5:00am till 5:00pm on December 28th and 29th, New Years Day January 1st and February 15th and 19th. Space on these trips is limited so advance reservations are recommended.
