Ling – Blackfish – Even Stripers!
After the disaster that was the end of last week with the miserable weather and no one sailing for days, we finally were able to sail several days this past week.
fishing on Tuesday’s Ling trip was slow, with just a pick of fish throughout the day. Wednesday’s Ling trip was a little better, but fishing had still not picked up to the level it was before the big north east storm.
Between the 4 days of nasty weather and the water starting to cool off the Sea Bass are now scarce inshore. While we normally see these fish leave the inshore waters and disappear for the winter around this time of year (except for way offshore during the winter out of our reach) the storm simply hastened their retreat.
However, both the Blackfish and the Stripers decided to fill the gaps the past few days.
While we target bottom fish every day, the past few days we were able to make a stop on our way to the bottom fishing stops over some schools of Stripers and throw some jigs at them for a few. Most everyone has been hooking into fish with anywhere from a handful to a dozen keepers coming over the rail before it’s time to continue to the bottom fishing grounds.
Laura Galanti landed her first Striper by jigging with a 33 incher and Tom Marcel from Jackson had a nice 36 inch fish.
Yesterday, Saturday November 21st saw 19 keeper Striped Bass come over the rail, 7 of them keepers, at the start of the trip. There were also a couple dozen blues boated. After that we moved right to the bottom grounds and picked at Blackfish and a couple throw back Sea Bass. Quite a few short Tog were caught with 8 keepers total
Trevor Ashby from Brooklyn, NY won the pool with a blackfish
Today, Sunday, November 22nd we again picked some stripers in the morning on our way to the bottom fishing grounds with quite a few bluefish making their presence known. After a little bit of that we moved to some wrecks and had just a slow pick of blackfish with a couple keepers for the day.
The Paramount is sailing every Tuesday AND Wednesday hitting the deep water wrecks for Ling from 6:30am to 3:30pm and every Friday and Saturday night for Ling from 7:00pm to 1:00am
Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday the Paramount sails from 6:30am till 3:30pm for Blackfish, the occasional Sea Bass still inshore and we may make an early stop for stripers if we run into them on the way to the bottom fishing grounds.
Our Monday Marathons are also targeting Blackfish, the occasional Sea Bass and perhaps a striper or two if we run into them. Trips sail every Monday from 6:30am to 5:00 pm. Our Marathon offers a longer day, enabling the captain to hit more or further spots, whatever is needed!
The Paramount will be doing a Special Deep Water Ling Marathon on the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, Nov. 27th. This trip will sail from 5:00am till 5:00pm targeting Ling, Cod, Pollock and anything else inhabiting the deep wrecks that time of year. The trip is limited, so advance reservations are recommended.
