    Youth Turkey Hunt

Had the oppurtunity to go with my nephew 12 and my brother SHUNT on a youth turkey hunt this past weekend. Arrived well before light and waited for my bro and my nephew. They were running a few minutes behind. I went ahead of them and started locating. Heard 12 different gobblers along the creek bottom. It was just a few minutes past flydown when I met up with my brother and nephew. Made the first setup and nada. Went right back to where we heard the birds hammerin and setup on 4 gobblers and 3 hens. Had a real nice bird coming right to us and got intercepted by a hen. Then waited some more and had 2 birds at different times trying to come around us. Switched trees and probably spooked those. We turned back around and started working the other 4 gobblers they were on their way to us but were intercepted by hens again. Tried to move ahead of them but to no avail.
Went to grab some lunch and asked the nephew if he wanted to continue. He said he did but he was worn slam out. Called it day and ended on a good note with him having a great hunt seeing birds hens and gobblers and hearing birds gobbling around us all morning. Sure was nice to get out and spend some time in the woods with family.

Looking forward to going myself this coming weekend.

    great place

well you had him in an awesome place but sucessful hunts don't always end with a dead bird or animal. I know it would have been a huge success for me to have in been in the presence of all those birds. CONGRATS

Thank you for kind words weekender. My brother and I were talking about that very same thing this morning. I always have to remind myself of that and not get greedy. I love hearing/seeing them gobble in front of you better than pulling the trigger.

Congrats BTH for getting him out and putting him into the birds. Keep taking him and it'll happen but you know that!
    Good Luck man!
