WVa QDM - Better Lucky than Good
This is what 5 acres of clover looks like when it has been mowed off to 1/4" high.

For the past few years we have been following a QDM strategy of killing breader does and management bucks that would never reach potential. The results are below.
My 2009 season consisted of a 3 hour hunt ( didn't get up until 7:00, and didn't leave the house until 9:00 ) One bullet and one deer.
Sorry for the bad photo's. Its not a dirty lens, thats dew in the pics. The air was thick, but they moved all day.

Awesome buck!!! What was the inside spread Jim? Looks like a very healthy herd!!! That's my kind of hunting

Great pics and great deer. Proof that letting them walk and letting them get some age works!
Congrats on a fine hunt

QDM is actually all about killing. You have to learn how to shoot does (2nd year and up) in the head. Great eats, much better than bucks, especially when head shot.
That gets your numbers down to a sustainable level.
Then you feed whats left of your good genetics. They younger does have been made by what good bucks you let walk, so you selectively modify the herd.
The older does have to go, because you don't know what line they came from.

Fantastic buck!! I agree about the does we have to take at least 2 Each every year on the property we hunt. Love those mowed clover fields!!
