Asa and I went out late yesterday evening looking for deer on the farm. An adjoining property had the timber company thinning the Pine Plantations so we slowly rode through looking down the rows. On one, I noticed a small doe feeding and slowly moving towards us. I continued to look around in different directions when Little ASA started jumping up and down sayin DaDa Dada wook wook, I glannced back at the doe thinking ASA had just noticed her but realized he had seen something else. Standing about a 125 yards away from the doe was a large buck. With light fading fast and the deer about 200 yards from us the antlers were clearly visible. I figured he was an eight or ten pointer with very tall tines. Looked pretty wide too with the antlers well outside the ears. I guess Little Asa has seen enough to know what a buck is now. I better start paying attention when he says WOOK DADDA!

Kids are pretty amazing... When one of my nephews was 2, we asked him to point out an owl - we had an owl clock on the deck... Instead he pointed out a great horned owl in a tree behind the house... I never saw it until he pointed it out....
I used to ignore my two young ones when we were out looking for deer and they would get excited but I learned fast that they have laser eye sight and pick up movement and deer I would have never seen, pretty cool to see them get so excited, I think I'll take a ride with them tonight.
