Here's what I got finished in the wood duck department this year. I also had out a fullbody on top of a nearby box, and there's a drake hunting his way around the country that I carved too. They saw duty this morning for the second time and were luck enough to meet their flying brethren. The hen with the tucked head was my first, the high head drake next, the other drake, and the turned head hen. I can see my progress, and it's nice to finally have some bodies for the freezer for when it comes to painting time again.
A look up the river
A pair of domestic spec looking geese were flying up the river as we headed in. We were going 35.9 and gaining on them just slightly. I was a little slow with the camera, but got the closest view of a gooses rear end I've ever seen. They'll probably get it this fall being taken as Specs....evidently there is a breeding population in Greenland that has been known to migrate throughout the Atlantic flyway....pretty neat.
Here's me and the boss man, we took the first pair nicely, but he out did me with the second pair, he dropped his on the first shot as I cleanly missed 3 shots on mine.
yeah we were hen killers today. It was tough to ID them in the fog and through teh trees. 2 of the 4 were shot through the branches above as they slowed to check out the dekes.
The most recent hen...I can finally see where I went wrong with the paint!!
It's amazing what the Bankes Goliath can do. This spot is tidal and went from 3ft. down to less than a foot, we poled around to pick up the decoys and headed home. Next week I'll be out chasing scoters in rough stuff out in the bay.
Michael Banks just sent me $'s on a Dominator 14' great looking boat how do you like it & did you check the other s out as well? I hunt Coastal water that goes from 2' deep mud to 20' on the tide!
I can't say a bad thing about the boats or the Bankes. Mike and Ron run a tight ship and are exactly what I would hope for in a boat builder.
I am not the biggest fan of the paint job on my boat....that is the pattern. It is similar to the original TDB coloring that was meant to look like a NE rock. The ducks don't seem to care though, it's just me. I am probably gonna paint it a natural gearis pattern next year.
I have not been in one of the smaller boats on the water, but I have the Goliath and two Bankes layouts, and the quality is consistant.
If you wanna come down and sea duck with me before you pull the trigger on the boat...just gimmie a holler.
Nice pics Dave, and congrats on the hunt.I went to one of my woodie holes last wk. and had about 30 woodrows sitting on the pond,I hope this is gonna be a good yr.,because I sure was slack in the early season.
