    Wildest thing just happened

As some of you know I live in the city limits of Wilmington NC. Tonight I went into my bathroom and the window was open. I heard the strangest noise outside and went to the kitchen door for a better listen and look. Out of the shadows walks a cat, yellowish in nature with a tail 2 &1/2 to 3' long. Made a noise kinda like a Rauaaa, never have I heard this sound before. Watched the cat call for about 5 minuets or so jumping back in "Cat style" every now and then and could hear another further down toward the water, none of the neighborhood dogs were barking.

As I went back into the house to show my mother the cat, 4 or 5 foxes, red and gray both ran to the house and used my truck as a place to hide, they were freaked out and very jumpy and did not leave till the cats went away.

Was not able to get pictures as my camera was in the truck and I was not going to put my back to the animal. Any Ideas as to what kind of cat this could have been??

Florida Panther......they are around. Seen one while hunting on base before. I know of two other people that swear of seeing them around too. I'd bet that's what you saw.

    Lee, Kinda like this?....

Pertty much John. May have been a young one as didn't look as big as I thought a Panther would be.

Your right Fred, but I am sure that this was no Bob Cat, very golden in color and I was about 35 yards from it, wildest think was seeing the Gray and Red Foxes both together comming to check it out. Never seen both kinds of Foxes together.

Lee, I've seen a big cat twice at our house in Como on the river, my dad has seen it countless times. thats only 2.5 hours NW of here. its possible, what you saw was a mt lion, cougar, panther, etc. I think they'er all the same just depends on what part of the world your in.

Lee is either of these what you saw? The first is a juvenile cougar/puma/mtn lion they are all the same. The second is a jaguarundi your quite a bit far north for its range(South and Central America parts of Texas), but you never know. As for IDing the Mt lion the black tipped tail is the key.

Went out first thing this morning but no tracks of any kind. Even the Foxes tracks in the drive we gone as we had a sprinkle last night. Lot of ankle deep grass where they were and saw no sign of a kill.

I think John's picture is the closest to what we saw. As the light was low, I did not see a black spot on it's tail but was bright enough to tell that it did not have spots...

I was driving on 501 outside of Myrtle Beach last Tuesday morning, when one ran out in front of me. It stopped on the side of the road just long enough for me to verify that it was a mountain lion. It was a shade of red. Almost like a light colored Irish Setter. Unfortunately it took off when I stopped to take a pic.
